    Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce
     Welcomes New Coast Guard Transfers

Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce the distribution of “Welcome to Cheboygan” bags to the new Coast Guard transfers and families who have recently reported to Cheboygan for duty.
Wednesday August 5, 2020 USCG Ombudsman Erica Castro,  Seaman Carter Evans from the Cutter Mackinaw and DC3 Kristian Lett from Coast Guard Housing  picked up the bags outside the Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce to distribute to the 15 new transfers.  The welcome bags are filled with information about the Cheboygan area, including trail maps, local attraction information, relocation information,  delicious cookies from Libby’s Café and Kilwin’s Fudge from Dar’s Hallmark, all sorts of goodies and coupons from Chamber Members which include: Citizens National Bank, EXIT Realty Premier, Fernelius Auto Group, Habitat for Humanity, Spray’s Plumbing and Heating, Straits Area Federal Credit Union, Cheboygan Sun Shop, Scrolls Unlimited, Allure Salon, Dr. James Hanchett DDS – Water’s Edge, Dr. Matthew Free DMD – Today’s Dental, Stormy Kromer, Simply Marcella, McLaren Northern Michigan, Continental Home Centers, Cheboygan Opera House, Bernard Building Center, Illuminations (massage & bodywork) and Speaker of the House Lee Chatfield.

Erica Castro- "We just want to thank the chamber and Cheboygan, everyone who contributed, because it's really important for our families to move somewhere and already feel at home and like they love them. This goes a long way toward that."

Seaman Carter Evans (been in the Coast Guard two years and Cheboygan is his first station)- "I have been here for about two years now and it's like a second home to me now. I didn't think I was going to like it at first because it's a small town and I am from Florida. But I got used to it and I like helping out the community whenever I can, because it's like a second home to me."

“This is the second year we have put together welcome bags for our new Coast Guard transfers and their families.  I feel that helping to make the transition into a new community for these individuals and families is the least we can do as a Chamber, and new neighbor.  The service men and women stationed in Cheboygan are very generous with their time volunteering in the community and assisting when needed, so this is a great way to welcome them, and hopefully let them know they are a part of a great community!  Once you’ve lived here, you’re always a Cheboyganite” said Polly Schneider, Assistant Director – Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce
