Informative Community Event to be Held at Opera House
    By Polly Schneider

As usual, we are busy behind the scenes at the Cheboygan Area Chamber of Commerce getting ready for several upcoming events. The annual Michigan Cranberry Co. tours, The Parade of Lights which will be held on Saturday December 1st, and promoting business in Cheboygan.  This fall is a bit busier than normal with the addition of our State of the Community program.  This is an exciting opportunity for us to be able to hold an informative program that will update the community of Cheboygan on the “state of” several organizations, government entities and community programs.
This event will be different than most of the Chambers events, in that it will be held in the morning.  Our committee decided that an early program would allow attendees to still enjoy their Friday evening and Cheboygan’s 2nd Annual Fall Fest weekend activities.  The venue for our State of the Community Breakfast will be The Opera House and the ticket includes a continental breakfast, seat for the presentation and a full color booklet containing “state of” reports from organizations such as Bring IT Cheboygan!, CAMA (Cheboygan Area Ministerial Association), The Salvation Army to name a few.  Also included in this booklet will be updates from The County of Cheboygan, The City of Cheboygan, McLaren, Mackinaw Straits Healthcare, Alcona Healthcare and various other community resources and supporting entities such as The Straits Area Communities Foundation, Michigan Main Street Committee and Michigan Works! Northeast Consortium.
The program itself was planned to address four topics that where of common interest in several informal polls of diverse individuals and groups.  These four topics include, The State of Healthcare, The State of the Port of Cheboygan, The State of Education and The State of Human Services and resources available.  Each speaker will present a report overviewing their specific topic.  This program is intended to be informative.  The planning committee had also discussed holding a roundtable of sorts with each of these speakers, so that there would be an opportunity for citizens to ask specific questions pertaining to each of their areas of expertise.  These roundtables will be held in conjunction with our Chamber of Commerce Open Houses, which will be Mondays in October beginning Monday October 8th and ending Monday October 29th.  For details on each of these roundtable sessions visit the event calendar on Cheboygan.com.
Tickets for the State of the Community Breakfast are $10 in advance and are available online at www.cheboygan.com, at the Chamber of Commerce office, or by calling the Chamber at 231-627-7183.  Tickets will also be available at the door for $15, if they have not sold out. Tickets sales are really picking up so we suggest securing yours ahead of time, and save $5.
