    The Cheboygan Area Arts Council is excited to announce its second annual Virtual Youth Art Show. The 2021 show will be hosted on the Cheboygan Opera House website and promoted online and around town. The CAAC brings work from over 100+ youth art students each year. Homeschoolers and students from Bishop Baraga, Cheboygan Area High, Middle, and Elementary schools are displaying their best work. “I would like to keep doing this every year,” says CAAC executive director Kathy Johnson. “The online edition is like Grandma’s refrigerator. We will leave the pictures up forever so students, their friends and relatives can continue to go back to see their work. It is so beautiful. I love seeing their artwork up. It makes me laugh, it makes me cry, it makes me think. And it is fun to just click through the pictures and enjoy the imagination of so many talented young people.” Cheboygan area teachers, led by art teachers Amy Ives and Sean McNeil, contribute their students’ artwork. Submissions from parents are also welcomed. Because of confidentiality policies, all artwork must be accompanied by consent from a parent, giving permission for the CAAC to put their child’s work online. There is no cost and entries are juried for age appropriateness. You can check out the 2021 Virtual Youth Art Show online starting May 1st.     Guided Bicycle Trail Ride

     

    Ride the North Central State Trail to the Barbara 

    Hoffius Preserve and Back

     

     

    Hoffius Preserve Bicycle Ride Tour

    By Cheboygan Trails Council

     

    Beginning at  8;30 am at Festival Square Jim Conboy  will lead a bike ride north on the North Central State Trail  to and back from the Hoffius Preserve just off US 23. The total round trip  distance is 15 1/2 miles. A volunteer will sweep to make sure no one is left behind. Once at the Preserve bikes will be left at the entrance,  with a volunteer,  and riders will  walk about 1/2 mile down  to the shore of Lake Huron where the beauty of the Lake can be appreciated. Total time 2 3/4 to 3hours. 

     

    While the trail is flat, riders should be prepared to ride the distance comfortably.  It is not a ride for young children. Since the path to the shore of Lake Huron includes steps and uneven ground, comfortable walking shoes are advised. Helmets are encouraged.

     

    It would be appreciated if you would sign up for the ride though that is not required to participate.
